Pakistan Plane Crash Kills All Aboard
[ No survivors as Pakistan plane crash kills 152 ] - An airliner has crashed near the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, killing all 152 people on board.
The plane, a domestic flight from Karachi operated by the private company Airblue, came down in hills just north of the city as it was about to land.
There is no word on the cause of the crash. At the time the area was shrouded in fog.
Pakistani TV showed images of smouldering wreckage on a foggy hillside, with helicopters overhead.
Imtiaz Elahi, chairman of the Capital Development Authority, which deals with emergencies, said the crash was "heartbreaking".
"It is a great tragedy, and I confirm it with pain that there are no survivors," he told the Associated Press news agency.
The plane, reported to be an.........

Gaddafi Continues Push For United States of Africa
[ Gaddafi continues push for United States of Africa ] - The outspoken Libyan leader told reporters that this week's African Union summit in Kampala, Uganda was another step
toward an African unity government. Gaddafi insists that it is the only way Africa can develop without Western interference.
"I am satisfied that Africa is going along its historic and right road. One day it will become similar to the United States of America," Gaddafi told a small group of reporters in Kampala at the end of the summit.
"We are approaching the formation of the African Authority, and each time we solve African problems and also move in the direction of peace and unity... we deal with problems step by step. We are continuing to do that," Gaddafi said.
While Gaddafi's initiative tallies with .........

Mexico Inmates 'Released To Kill'
[ Mexico inmates 'let out to kill' ] - Prosecutors in Mexico have accused the director and guards at a prison of letting inmates out and lending them guns and vehicles to carry out drug-related killings.
The inmates, who are members of drug cartels, were believed to be behind three mass shootings, including the massacre of 17 people at a party earlier this month, the attorney-general's office said on Sunday.
"According to witnesses, the inmates were allowed to leave with authorisation of the prison director ... to carry out instructions for revenge attacks using official vehicles and using guards' weapons for executions," Ricardo Najera, a spokesman for the attorney-general's office, said at a televised news conference.
The director of the prison in Gomez Palacio in Durango state and three other officials were placed under........

Dr Adesanya Adelekan Got It Wrong On Nigerians
[ Dr Adesanya Adelekan Got It Wrong ] - I beg to disagree with the managing director of Macmillan Nigeria Publishers, Lagos, Dr Adesanya Adelekan, on some of his comments during the interview with Sunday
Punch published on the 11th of July. In the article Dr Adelekan intoned that Nigerians do not buy or read books except to pass examinations, and that they are
not interested in novels, magazines, articles etc. Sadly, it is now commonplace to hear Nigerian publishers grousing about poor sales and heaping the
blame on poor Nigerians while the fault, in my honest opinion, is almost........

Nigeria Power Rotation & Its Presumptions
[ Power Rotation and Its Presumptions ] - If I were to pick the next president of Nigeria, I would-without hesitation-choose Muhammadu Buhari. Mind you, it wouldn't be because
of "zoning" and all that stuff. It would be because I am very convinced that he would offer this country leadership-strong, committed, credible leadership.
Nigeria has been suffering from lack of leadership in the last few decades. What we've always had is a committee of friends and associates who sit down in Abuja to distribute raw cash
and sleazy contracts to the detriment of the progress of Nigeria. In Buhari, we have someone whose integrity has not been tainted over the years, despite concerted efforts.
Nobody has said he stole money or bought houses in London and Dubai or has fronts collecting money on his........

Iran Hit With New EU Sanctions
[ Iran hit with new EU sanctions ] - The European Union has adopted a new packageof sanctions against Iran, targeting the Islamic Republic's foreign trade, banking and energy sectors.
The sanctions, which were agreed to in principle by EU leaders in June, are the latest in a series of measures taken by the international community in an effort to disrupt Tehran's nuclear programme.
Iran, meanwhile, has sent a letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency stating that it is ready to resume negotiations about a nuclear fuel swap without any preconditions, according to the country's state media.
The new EU measures, formally adopted on Monday at a meeting of the........

Dog Given Communion in Church by Priest

"The minister welcomed me and said come up and take communion, and Trapper came up with me and the minister gave him communion as well," said Keith, wrote the Telegraph on Monday.
"Then he bent his head and said a little prayer," Keith said.

Communique Imo United USA Incorporated
[ Communique Imo United USA Incorporated ] - On Friday June 25, 2010 at the Best Western Hotel in Prince Georges County, Maryland USA, Nigerians of Imo State descent, their friends
and well wishers gathered for a night of communal rekindling of faith in one another, and entertainment in the launching of Imo United USA Inc. Conceived by certain
leading lights of the Imo community in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area, Imo United USA Inc. is intended to fill the vacuum that unfortunately exists in the community in the lack of a
strong association that coheres Igbo people of Imo State descent. Many attempts have been made in the past to establish an organization that would provide a platform to address the
needs and concerns of Imo people. Within the larger and diverse community of the Washington Metropolitan area, Igbo people of Imo State descent have indisputable concerns and needs,
necessitating, therefore, a strong organization that would play a strong advocacy role in addressing those concerns
and meeting their needs. Some of the concerns expressed range from.........

Russia Reaches Out To Nato Alliance
[ Russia reaches out to Nato alliance ] - Russia is ready to restore military co-operation with Nato, almost two years after relations were frozen during the war with Georgia, Russia's senior general has said.
"We are ready again to seek together responses to modern challenges and threats to international security," General Nikolai Makarov said after talks with Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola, Nato's military committee chairman, in Moscow on Friday.
Nato countries, particularly the US, hope a thaw in ties could lead to greater Russian co-operation in the war in Afghanistan.

North Korea Threatens U.S.
[ N Korea threatens US with 'physical response' ] - North Korea has inflamed tensions over the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship by threatening the United States and South Korea with a "physical response" if they carry out naval maneuvers this weekend. The US refused to back down.
The latest threat came four months after the sinking of a South Korean warship that killed 46 sailors. The North has been blamed, but vehemently denies any involvement.
In Vietnam for a Southeast Asian regional security forum, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a North Korean official traded barbs over the sinking, the four-day military drills beginning tomorrow and the imposition of new US sanctions against the North.
Yesterday, the US-led military command monitoring the ceasefire on the Korean peninsula confronted the North about the March 26 sinking of the Cheonan, calling it a violation of the armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean war.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu To Retire From Public Life
[ Tutu to retire from public life in Oct. ] - Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has announced that he will retire from public life on his 79th birthday in October.
On Thursday, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and anti-apartheid activist said he will limit his time in his office to one day a week until the end of February next year, when the office will begin its official winding-down process, Allafrica.com reported.
He retired as Archbishop of Cape Town in 1996 but soon joined South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, tasked with investigating human rights violations by the apartheid government and liberation movements.
After the Truth and Reconciliation Commission completed its work, he retired once again but kept up a hectic schedule of international appointments.

Alausa said the oath-taking ceremony, which was secretly recorded, was at Governor Daniel's compound. He said he and the other lawmakers involved, sought the governor's support in their senatorial/representative bid and were ordered by the
governor to take an oath of loyalty at his house. Rep Alausa alleges that as they took the oath, they did not know they were under the camera.
