Iran To Cut Ties With British Museum
[ Iran to cut ties with British Museum over loan ] - Iran said it will cut ties with the British Museum on Monday because of the museum's failure to lend Tehran an ancient Babylonian artifact described as the world's earliest bill of rights. The spat over the loan has long festered between London and Tehran, and comes against the backdrop of increasingly tense Iranian-British relations. Tehran is under heavy pressure from the West over its nuclear program, and has accused......... Click here to read full story.

Ukraine PM To Reject Election Result
[ Tymoshenko to reject Ukraine presidential election result ] - Against a background of apparent hints that she should accept her defeat in Ukraine's presidential elections, word was awaited from Yulia Tymoshenko on February 9 2010 as to whether she would concede - or contest the result in court. Local media quoted her as telling officials of her party on February 8 that she rejected the result and it would take it to court, but the report had not been confirmed by Tymoshenko by the morning of February 9. Results of the second round of voting on February 7 gave a narrow margin of victory to Viktor Yanukovych, the pro-Moscow leader who has called on Tymoshenko to concede and to resign as Ukraine's prime minister. In a statement on the elections, of which the first round was held on January 17, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that she welcomed the completion of voting and the "positive assessment" given to the process by the OSCE/ODIHR-led International Election Observation Mission. "The generally calm atmosphere in which the elections were conducted, the open campaign in the media and the fact that the electorate were provided with a genuine choice represent important achievements in Ukraine's democratic development," Ashton said. "I should in particular like to congratulate the people of Ukraine for the high turn out in both rounds of the elections and the strong commitment demonstrated to the democratic process," she said. Ashton said that the........ Click here to read full story.

South Africa To Pay For Mugabe Sins
[ Judge tells SA to pay for Mugabe sins ] - The South African government has been hauled over the coals by a Pretoria High Court judge for not protecting its citizens from Robert Mugabe's land expropriations. The government was ordered to pay damages to a South African farmer to whom it failed to provide diplomatic protection after Mugabe's government seized 11 of his farms in Zimbabwe without compensation. Although the damages have yet to be calculated, it could amount to R100 million. Free State farmer Crawford von Abo, who began farming in Zimbabwe 50 years ago, was arrested for "trespassing" on his main farm in 1997 and even spent time in a Zimbabwean jail as Zanu-PF cracked down on white farmers and expropriated their land. After trying unsuccessfully to negotiate with the Zimbabwean government, he turned to........ Click here to read full story.

Iran to Start Nuclear Enrichment Program
[ West alarmed as Iran steps up enrichment of uranium stocks ] - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today ordered Iran's atomic energy organisation to begin enriching its uranium stockpile to a higher level, further raising fears over the country's nuclear ambitions. Ahmadinejad was shown on Iranian TV giving an order for the uranium, currently enriched to the level of 3.5%, to be further refined to 20% purity. State media said the work would start on Tuesday. Iran said that it needs the more concentrated fuel for a research reactor in Tehran which makes isotopes for medical uses. However, western officials pointed out tonight that Iran does not possess the specialised technology for turning the enriched uranium into the fuel rods used in the Tehran reactor. They are concerned that by enriching uranium to the level of 20%, the Islamic republic would learn how to overcome many of the technical obstacles to making weapons-grade fuel. The percentage measures of enrichment refer to concentration of the most fissile isotope, U-235. A weapon small enough to......... Click here to read full story.

Peter Obi Holds Post-Election Press Conference
[ Peter Obi Holds Post-Election Press Conference ] - Nigeria: Ladies and Gentlemen - I am delighted to address you and indeed the entire world on the Gubernatorial election which was conducted in Anambra yesterday. This election was unique in several respects: one, it was the only one that was conducted throughout Nigeria yesterday. Two, the entire world literally monitored it either directly or indirectly. Thirdly, although the age-old inadequacies of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in terms of poor preparation, late arrival of electoral materials, etc, manifested, they were minimal. However, in spite of the foregoing, vote-counting, collation and announcement of results were relatively transparent. I wish to commend the INEC, election observers and monitors in this connection. For this singular reason also, I accept the........ Click here to read full story.

The women, members of a small feminist group called Femen known for staging eye-catching protests, were hustled out of the Kiev polling station by security guards before Viktor Yanukovich showed up to vote, an AFP photographer saw.   'Tehran logic Saddam-style'
[ 'Tehran logic Saddam-style' ] - Iran has an uncertain policy, similar to that of a reckless and violent boy. We are not saying this because Iran supports a number of destructive extremist groups, but due to its overall policy, particularly its nuclear file. Iran has removed all the masks it used earlier to market this file as it needs more time to actualize its objectives known only to the evils in Tehran. This file has proven to the whole world that Iran is not serious in its alleged plan to confront the international community regarding its nuclear program. This has put the country inside a circle of worries and instability, posing a grave threat to the region. The entire world is now tired of the usual Iranian excuse - the so-called right to have nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Iran tests missiles and other weapons daily, making it a 'center of threat' for various countries in the region. We should not ignore the fact that Iran's neighbors have the right to.........   Britain For Zimbabwe IMF Voting Rights
[ Britain Says It Supports Restoration of Zimbabwe Voting Rights at IMF ] - The British Treasury said Friday that it supports the restoration of Zimbabwe's voting rights in the International Monetary Fund, following a recent statement from the United States that it would not opposed such a development. The U.K. Treasury issued a statement saying the macroeconomic environment in Zimbabwe has improved under Finance Minister Tendai Biti, and that this was one of the factors contributing to its decision in the matter. "The UK government also welcomes Zimbabwe's re-engagement with the IMF over the last year, which has underpinned economic reform in Zimbabwe," it said. "Support for restoration of Zimbabwe's IMF voting rights is recognition of this progress, and forms part of Zimbabwe's re-engagement with international financial institutions," the Treasury said.   Preparing Nigeria For Disintegration
[ Preparing Nigeria for disintegration ] - The unusual long absence of President Musa Yar'Adua from office owing to his ill health has revealed how shallow the socio-political foundation of Nigeria lies. It has also abruptly unmasked the real enemies of the Nigerian nation. The actions and inactions of these anti-democratic elements have clearly turned Nigeria into a baobab tree standing on the edge of an erosion prone river. Events following the official admission that President Yar'Adua was suffering from severe pericarditis and on admission at the King Faisal Hospital in Saudi Arabia has pointed to one ominous reality: The multi-faceted leadership institution in Nigeria is unarguably not built on the pillars of justice, fair play, and the rule of law. As a result of this anomaly, tribal and religious sentiments now shape the opinions of government officials. Instead of nursing policies that will unite and improve the lives of the citizenry, public servants now take pride in pursuing parochial tribal agendas. There is no gainsaying that the die hard attitude by some key government officials in ensuring that President Yar'Adua does not hand over power temporarily to Vice President Jonathan is clearly......... Therese A. Ziemann, 48, said she and three other women only meant to confront the married man about his cheating ways. Her decision to grab the bottle of nail glue from her makeup bag was "a stupid spur-of-the-minute decision," she said.   Iran To Hang 9 More Protesters
[ Iran set to hang more opposition protesters ] - Iran said yesterday that it would soon hang nine more rioters over their roles in the unrest that erupted after June's presidential vote, prompting an opposition leader to say such repression showed the 1979 Islamic revolution had failed. "Nine others will be hanged soon. The nine, and the two who were hanged on Thursday, were surely arrested in the recent riots and had links to anti-revolutionary groups," said senior judiciary official Ebrahim Raisi. The two men hanged last week were among a group of 11 people sentenced to death on charges including "waging war against God" and being members of armed groups. Opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi, the former prime minister, said the repression showed the 1979 Islamic revolution that overthrew the US-backed Shah "had not achieved its goals". Quotes
"Let the guns implode, the wooden barrels decompose to fertilize a vibrant agriculture, and the metallic barrels and structures melted for industrialization. Let the ensuing abundance fill up the greedy and the rest of society for the complete healing of Africa."

.......Chief Charles O. Okereke

Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking form the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.

.......Martin L. King Junior

It'll be the ballot or it'll be the bullet. It'll be liberty or it'll be death. And if your not ready to pay that price, don't use the word freedom in your vocabulary.

.......Malcom X
