Nigerian wins world Qur'anic recitation competition

Sabiu Kura, a Qur'anic pupil has done Nigeria proud by emerging winner of the first position at the just-concluded International Holy Qur'anic Recitation Competition held in Dubai.
This was disclosed to The Triumph on Friday when the winner in company of members of the Holy Qur'an Reciters Organisation of Nigeria paid a visit to our newsroom.
Malam Kura, according to the organisation, is the first blackman to qualify for the first position in the Dubai competition which is an annual event.
Speaking to The Triumph, Malam Kura explained that he was able to emerge winner at the competition through the support and encouragement of his parents and teachers, pointing out that he undertook Qur'anic recitation training in his home town Kura in Kura local government area of Kano state.
He disclosed that the Holy Qur'an reciters organisation of Nigeria paid for all his expenses from Kano to Dubai so as to enable Nigeria participate fully in the competition, urging parents to encourage their wards toward studying the Holy Qur'an.
In his remark, an official of the organisation, Malam Rufai Gabari, hailed the organisation, stressing that it will forever remain grateful to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero for his fatherly advice.
It could be recalled that last year an indigene of Kano emerged 3rd in the annual competition. This year's competition was held between November 23 to December 5, 2000.
