Nigerian woman quizzed over UK beheading

- iol

A 24-year-old Nigerian woman was today being questioned over the murder of a mother-of-two from Malawi. Paiche Onyemaechi’s badly beaten and decapitated body was found wrapped in a black plastic bag near the village of Piltown, Co Kilkenny, on July 23.

The 25-year-old was the daughter of Malawian Chief Justice Leonard Unyolo. She had been missing from her Waterford home for three weeks before her body was found.

Gardaí said a woman was arrested in Waterford yesterday morning and was being quizzed by detectives at a station in the city. She can be held for up to 72 hours under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Ms Onyemaechi’s badly decomposed body was found by a passer-by in a field at the side of a river just outside the town. No-one has been charged over the murder.

Gardaí in Dublin had already quizzed two men, also originally from Nigeria in Dublin in the weeks after the body was found. They were released without charge. It is believed Ms Onyemaechi’s husband, Chika, 31, has not been seen since shortly after her death.
