[ Masterweb Reports: Emma Elekwa reports ] - The Ifitedunu community in Dunokofia Local Government Area of Anambra State has pledged its support for President Muhammadu Buhari second term bid.

It said it would do everything possible to see that Buhari got reelected in 2019, including the purchase of reelection form for him.

The community made the pledge through its traditional ruler and president general, Igwe Emeka Ilounoh and Samuel Nweke, respectively in separate speeches when the Minister of Labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige performed the groundbreaking for the construction of the Federal Specialist Skills Acquisition centre in the area.

According to the leaders, the choice of Buhari was informed by the commitment demonstrated by Dr Ngige in the community right from his reign as the governor of the state from 2003 and 2006.

They said the President had done so well that he deserved a second term to complete his good works, just as they commended the federal government for remembering the town in the distribution of its infrastructure.

The minister thanked the community for the confidence reposed in the Buhari’s administration, urging them to vote en masse for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the general elections.

[ Masterweb Reports: Odimegwu Onwumere reports ] - I was with a group of pressmen this January when one of us frowningly said that the government of Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is not media friendly.

I would not have believed the statement if some of Wike’s media aides had not resigned from his government and also, told the world in their resignation letters that Wike invariably hates the media.

In June 2017, Dr. Austin Tam George who was the state Information and Communication Commissioner resigned his appointment for irreconcilable issues in the government of Wike while he served in the information capacity. This was barely 24 hours the Rivers State Works Commissioner, Bathuel Harrison was relieved of his appointment by Wike.

Opunabo Inko-Tariah who was Wike’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity resigned from his job on November 6 2015, commenting that his former boss was underfunding the media. Inko-Tariah claimed that his office was vigorously famished of funds by the Wike government, except funds for publications and advertorial.

These are but a few media persons in the state who have expressed the condescension and disparagement the government of Wike has for journalists. This means that journalists who were supposed to carry out their social responsibilities in the state, were not empowered through the office of the then Wike’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. And till date, journalists are roaming in the state like wanderers; unlike they have had it in other successive governments in Rivers State.

Take it to anywhere, Wike operates a government devoid of a strong media team. He forgot that journalists are the bastion of governance in sustaining accountability and security of any given sovereignty. It is on record that "Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended entrusted the media with the power to monitor governance and uphold the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy as enshrined in Chapter 2 of the Constitution."

However, the saying that whoever that controls the media controls the mind may be true of Wike’s Rivers State. Why Wike has refused to make journalists in Rivers to be happy does not meet the eyes.

This implies that if Wike continues to be media unfriendly, the Rivers masses would be starved of the necessary information they need, given that journalists are needed to be active in Rivers State, especially in these times of insecurity.

In sane climes, organisations, persons and governments spend millions of dollars to empower journalists on reporting projects. Rivers State under Wike should tow this example, because he cannot afford the death of journalism in the state under his watch.

He needs to keep journalism alive. Wike should understand that according to one Henry Anatole Grunwald: Journalism can never be silent: That is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumph and the signs of horror are still in the air.

Wike needs journalists in the fight against insecurity in Rivers State. It is journalists signed obligation to expose the ills of the society even with their lives. I have a belief that if Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike's objective is to change Rivers State for the better, journalists are the most potent tools to use, instead of allowing journalism grope in apprehension in the state. It is too bad!

[ Masterweb Reports: Comrade James Ezema reports ] - Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Turkur Buratai has won the Africa Man of the Year 2017 Award for his personal commitment to anti-insurgency war in Nigeria and, by extension, West Africa sub-region as well "for being rare officer, a real gentleman, whose patriotic zeal in executing the war against Boko Haram is exemplary".

He was named as the Africa Man of the Year while the Nigerian Army won the Best Institution of the Year 2017 for their supreme sacrifices and relentless efforts to clear the country of not only the Boko Haram insurgents but all forms of criminal elements for citizens to coexist peacefully.

The confirmation of this prestigious honour on the Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army as an Institution was announced in Abuja by the Pan-African amalgam, the Coalition For Governance and Leadership in Africa.

According to a statement signed by the group's Award and Privileges Committee Chairman, Okpokwu Ogenyi, the coalition also noted that as an infantry officer, Lt. General Tukur Buratai's "professional approach to operational planning to fight insurgency is highly plausible.

"For us, the successes so far made in the war against terrorism in Nigeria came as a combination of good leadership enhanced by motivation through enhanced troops morale by the land forces under General Buratai.

"Records available to to us show that, General Buratai's personal sacrifice, commitment, zeal, and determination towards eradicating insurgency in Nigeria, and by extension the whole of West Africa, have not only resulted in the defeat of Boko Haram in Nigeria but has promoted regional peace and stability across African Nations", the coalition stated.

The group added that "Pockets of attacks by degraded and fleeing Boko Haram insurgents not withstanding, the Nigerian military as an institution have made unquantifiable supreme sacrifices and given their all to ensure that we all coexist in peace and harmony in the year under review."

The Coalition For Good Governance and Leadership in Africa noted that the winners emerged after its Award and Privileges Committee "considered numerous nominations from various organizations and individuals across Africa, disclosing that after a tedious screening exercise, the two nominees came tops.

The leadership award is an annual Honour bestowed only on two African Leaders or institutions that have distinguished themselves in promoting regional peace, infrastructure, wealth creation, food security, education, and health, among others.

Some eminent Africans who have received the honour in the past included Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr. Atta Mills (late), Mrs Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Monday Riku Morgan, to mention a few.

[ Masterweb Reports: Emma Elekwa reports ] - The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has recommended ranching as solution to the incessant herdsmen's attacks in the country.

Ezeokafor who stated this at the Blessed Iwene Tansi's Catholic Parish, Ebenebe, in Awka North council area of Anambra state, called for a revolution in the system of rearing cattle for livelihood.

He also enjoined Southeastern governors to expose youths in the area to mechanized system of rearing cattle by ranching, saying it would help to restrict Fulani cattle herders' encroachment into community farmlands.

"Developed countries like Ireland, Israel and Korea with small landmass, adopted ranching in their meat supply. With that improved method, cattle rearing is confined in enclosures which enhances cattle yield in both quality and quantity in meat and milk," he said.

According to the cleric, when Igbo youths use mechanized system of rearing cattle, it would motivate their Fulani/Hausa counterparts to emulate them, stressing that such move would also increase mutual advantages and coexistence between herdsmen and farmers.

He said the National Tripartite Committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari has swung into action and would likely conclude all arrangement about the minimum wage in the third quarter of 2018.

Speaking to newsmen in Awka, at the weekend, the minister said Buhari attached great importance to the committee with a close supervision to it, assuring that the committee would come out with an acceptable minimum wage.

"President Buhari is monitoring it strictly, and I am monitoring it too. I wear a double cap as minister of labour, who is the regulator and also as the deputy chairman of the committee.

"We had our inaugural meeting on 14th December and we did a frame work for our work. We will finish our job before the third quarters of this year, but we may finish earlier," he added.

On what Nigerians should expect as the minimum wage, Ngige declined to reveal what he had in mind, but promised to table it before the committee as well as back it up with productivity indices.

[ Masterweb Reports ] - Youths from the northern region, said they would back the Southeast region to produce the president of Nigeria in 2019, adding that their support would weaken the agitations for a Biafra Republic in the country.

The declaration was made during their summit at Arondizuogu in Imo State. The groups included Arewa Youths Forum, Arewa Youths Coalition for Peace, Northern Central Youth Club, as well as Youths for One Nigeria, among others.

This came as the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, said it has successfully launched a new Radio Nigeria Hausa station for the oppressed people of the North.

According to IPOB, the new station would start its maiden broadcast by 7pm tomorrow on Short Wave 15110 KHz 19 Meter Band, and would be received in the West, East and Southern Africa.

Speaking on their supoort for Igbo presidency, the Spokesperson of Arewa Youths, Alhaji Haruna Waziri, revealed that the convener of the youth summit, Mr. Iheanachor Ezeakor, has been endorsed by the group for 2019 presidency.

Part of the reason given by Waziri, was that with an Igbo man as president of Nigeria, Biafran agitations would be slackened, while peace and unity of the country would be strengthened.

He said: "Today, we are making history by endorsing a youth to run for the number one seat in Nigeria. Mr. Iheanacho Ezeakor is a youth, who has broken the barriers of ethnicity and religion, a youth the Northern youths believe in; a youth who is a true Nigerian.

"We do not believe in things not working out; we believe that this is the time to change the narrative in Nigeria. This community, Arondizuogu is a place where democracy started in the country and that is why we are here today to correct all that had gone wrong.

"We made this statement in Enugu, Lagos and Abuja; today the climax of it all is taking place in Ezeakor's village here in Arondizuogu.

"We took this step because our leaders have failed us; they are old and tired; we can do it because the youths contribute the major votes.

"It is no longer about ethnicity or religion now; it is about who you have confidence in. Ezeakor is a detribalized Nigerian; we don't want fanatics; we want a true Nigerian."

Waziri was of the view that Ezeakor's victory will not only quell the agitations for Biafra, but will also further unite Nigerians, whether from the South or the North," he noted.

Ezeakor who accepted to run for presidency, said he was not going to do that on the platform of PDP or APC, saying that the parties were for old politicians. He hinted that he was going to tell Nigerians soon the party on which he would vie for the presidency.

Ezeakor said: "So, I'm just acting as the catalyst, to motivate the youths; we are not fighting the government, but we want them to understand that we have come of age.

"My own as the convener of Nigerian Youth Summit is to make sure that things will not remain the same because we can't continue with the arrangement that youths are the leaders of tomorrow."

IPOB launches new Radio Nigeria Hausa Service

Meantime, IPOB has said that its new Radio Hausa station would expose all the misinformation and manipulations by northern leaders to keep the Indigenous Populations of Northern Nigeria, IPNN, backward in a bid to continue to oppress and lord over them.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Comrade Emma Powerful. It also said that those with the illusion that IPOB had been weakened by the absence of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, would be disappointed this year, as it would soon increase the tempo of its activities.

The statement read, "In keeping with our promise to facilitate the creation of an unbiased and informative platform to take the message of liberation to the down trodden and oppressed Indigenous Populations of Northern Nigeria, we the family members of the IPOB, worldwide and it's indomitable leadership, wish to happily announce the official launch of the much anticipated IPOB sponsored Radio Nigeria Hausa Service. "The maiden daily broadcast will hit the airwaves on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 7pm Nigerian time on Short Wave 15110 KHz 19 Meter Band."

"The broadcast will have the widest coverage of any radio signal in Africa. It will be received all over West, East and Southern Africa.

"Every Hausa speaking community in Africa will be able to receive it. In our opinion, we feel it has become imperative to educate the poor masses of northern Nigeria, whom the ruling class have cleverly enslaved and impoverished... by keeping vital information and knowledge away from them. This information deficit is what Radio Nigeria Hausa Service has come to remedy.

"All the hitherto hidden history of the conquest of indigenous Hausa speaking populations of the North will be laid bare for the world to know. More importantly, enslaved minorities of Arewa North, brutally savaged by Fulani terrorist herdsmen, through this unbiased platform, will acquire the necessary education needed to liberate themselves from the suffocating stranglehold of the caliphate or the born to rule class.

"What we hope to demonstrate through the launch of this liberation radio station is to prove beyond every conceivable doubt that IPOB is not a selfish movement concerned only about the well-being of Biafrans, but are also genuinely concerned about the plight of all oppressed people in Nigeria as stated by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on countless occasions. "Regardless of ethnicity, religion or creed, IPOB is pursuing an agenda of freedom for all. Our message is very simple, 2018 will be like no other in the history of Nigeria and will prove to be the year of liberation for those brave enough to confront the evil that Nigeria has become in the lives of millions of people.

"Our quest for the total and unadulterated liberation of Biafraland is unstoppable; this we shall demonstrate in the coming months. Those deluding themselves with the laughable and perverse notion that IPOB has been weakened because of the absence of our leader are in for a shock.

"This move today is the beginning of a mass revolution against our oppressors that will spread outside the borders of Biafra land.

"The coming of this new revolutionary Radio Nigeria Hausa Service will expose centuries old/ dark secrets through education of the oppressed Hausa Fulani youths that IPOB and Biafra mean well for them contrary to the lies being peddled by their corrupt leadership.

"We will not fail to let all Northern youths understand that their political leaders, elders and fathers like those in Biafra land are the real oppressors that have, over the years, kept them in the dark through a carefully crafted and systematic regime of misinformation and propagation of falsehood. Every Hausa speaking Northerner is advised to tune to 15110 KHz every night from 7 pm, starting from this Saturday, January 6, 2018, to be educated in order to be liberated."

Emeka Mamah and Chinonso Alozie filed above news.
