[ Masterweb Reports: Isiaka Wakili reports ] - Cameroon has deported 100,000 Nigerian refugees in the hope of stemming the spread of terrorist group Boko Haram, Human Rights Watch (HWR) said on Wednesday.

The group said in its new report that the deportation defied a plea by UN refugee agency to not return anyone to north-eastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram killed thousands of people, until security and human rights situation improved considerably."

The HRW report noted that the deported people were likely to face new violence, displacement and destitution.

The group, which investigates allegations of human rights abuses worldwide, says the report is based on interviews with more than 60 refugees.

It added that soldiers tortured, assaulted and sexually exploited Nigerian asylum seekers and denied them access to the UN refugee agency.

The rights group claimed Cameroon deported, often violently, tens of thousands of the refugees since early 2015.

"The Cameroonian military torture and abuse of Nigerian refugees seems to be driven by an arbitrary decision to punish them for Boko Haram attacks in Cameroon and to discourage Nigerians from seeking asylum," said HRW Associate Refugee Director, Gerry Simpson.

Boko Haram had posed steady threat to communities in north-east Nigeria and launched offensives in neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

The group’s goal is to enforce strict interpretation of Islamic law, known as sharia.

Since 2009, tens of thousands of people have died in the hands of Sunni fundamentalists in the region.

According to the UN, an estimated 2.7 million people fled their homes due to Boko Haram.(NAN)

[ Masterweb Reports: Isiaka Wakili reports ] - The Federal Government says the sophistication being used in hiding stolen funds is amazing. Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama stated this while addressing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Asked how much was stolen from Nigeria, Onyeama responded: "It's an ongoing thing. we've been discovering all the time because you see, the sophistication that there is today in hiding money around the world is amazing. Even western countries themselves have a lot of problems and it takes them a lot of time and they discovered about the Panama papers. Nobody knew about all those funds illegally stashed until you suddenly have the revelations under the Panama papers.

"So, it's really an ongoing thing and then new ones coming up all the time, as you saw recently we never knew about the US eve-droping on some telephone conversations of members of the previous governments and private sectors talking about investments that were made in the United States, it just suddenly came out like that, so its an ongoing thing."

The minister recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had cooperated with former British Prime Minister David Cameron to organise a global conference on anti-corruption.

He said Buhari had also made industrialized nations buy into looted funds' recovery, noting that "For a very long period of time, it was not a priority for industrialized countries to worry about money flowing from developing countries into their banks because as far as they're concerned, they've their own image of rulers of third world countries."

Onyeama explained that Buhari addressed contemporary global issues at the just concluded 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York because "he was speaking to the international audience on a global stage and the UN is there for global issues.

"So, I think it's absolutely in order because Nigeria is part of a global community addressing global issues. But he addressed all those issues covering also all the things that affect Nigeria as a country. Mr President came in, he outlined three priorities: security, governance anti-corruption and the economy."

[ Masterweb Reports: Seun Opejobi reports ] -The Presidency has said sureties for leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu risk imprisonment if he fails to appear in court on adjourned date.

Following a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja granting Kanu bail on April 25, Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe, signed the bond for release of the IPOB leader.

With his next court hearing coming up in October, the IPOB leader has not been heard from or seen after a combined team of security operatives invaded his house in Umuahia, the Abia State capital on September 14.

Commenting on the effect of Kanu’s failure to appear in court, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Prosecution, Okoi Obono-Obla said the court could issue a warrant of arrest for the IPOB leader.

Speaking with Sunday Telegraph, Obono-Obla said, “The Federal Government has already filed a motion to set aside the bail of Kanu.

“Following the military exercise carried out in Umuahia, Abia State and the subsequent proscription of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has not been seen and may have gone underground.

“So it is not likely that he will appear in court on the next adjourned day for fear of being arrested by the police or security agencies. Kanu had sureties that entered into recognizance or signed bail bonds as ordered by the court that led to his release.

“What is a recognizance? In law, recognizance is a security entered into before a court with a condition to perform some act required by law; on failure to perform that act a sum is forfeited.

“The position of the law as provided under Section 173 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, is that a defendant whom recognizance was entered on his behalf and who is subsequently released on bail is bound to appear before the court at every time and place to which during the course of the proceedings, the hearing may from time to time be adjourned.

“The court also may issue a warrant of arrest where a defendant (Kanu) bound by a recognizance or bond fails to appear before a court or police station. It follows that if Kanu fails to appear before the Federal High Court on the next adjourned date, the Judge will likely order a warrant for his arrest.

“The implication of the failure of Kanu to appear in court on the next adjourned date on those who stood sureties for his recognizance is that his recognizance shall be forfeited.

“The court shall order his bond entered by his sureties to pay the penalty or to show sufficient cause why the penalty should not be paid.

“It follows that Kanu’s three sureties will be ordered to pay N100 million each. Where sufficient cause is not shown by the sureties or the persons bound and the penalty is not paid, the court may recover the penalty from the person bound or from his estate if he is dead, in the manner laid down in the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 for the recovery of fine.

“However, where the penalty is not paid and cannot be recovered in the manner laid down by the law, the person bound shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months.”

[ Masterweb Reports: Linus Effiong reports ] - The Deputy Director, Public Relations of the 82 Division, Col lsagir Musa has called on Abians to collaborate with the military in dealing with emerging security challenges peculiar to the South-Eastern Region.

A press statement signed by Musa said despite the initial opposition to Operation Python Dance II by the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) members and their sympathizers the general area of the South East especially Aba is now fully stabilized.

[ Masterweb Reports: Seun Opejobi reports ] - The founder of Inri Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Babatunde Elijah Ayodele has released more prophecies on the Biafra agitation spearheaded by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu and the 2019 presidential election.

Speaking with Sunday Tribune, the Primate said Kanu had taken the wrong step in his fight for the actualization of Biafra.

Ayodele also stated that a Northerner will still rule Nigeria in 2019.

The clergy man insisted that Nigeria will disintegrate by 2035.

According to Ayodele, "Nnamdi Kanu has taken the wrong step in his fight for Biafra. He cannot actualise it.

"But the government must dialogue with him because his agitation will cause pandemonium. There will be a lot of factions within the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). Some people would penetrate the group in order to cause issues.

"Besides, I see a major referendum in the nearest future; it is not now. No government can stop the disintegration of Nigeria. Only God can stop it.

"Note my words: only God can stop Nigeria’s disintegration, but it is not yet time. By 2035, Nigeria will be no more. Five nations will come out of the country. Two will be greater than three."

Speaking on Nigeria’s 2019 general election, Ayodele said: "Neither the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nor the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can take Nigeria to the next level.

"I have five names of people who can take Nigeria to the next level, but it is not yet time to announce them. You know the way we are in this country. Should I announce those names, they would tell me that I have been bribed.

"Unfortunately, President Muhammadu Buhari cannot take Nigeria anywhere. Atiku Abubakar cannot take Nigeria anywhere. He should consult God before stepping in.

"When Dr Goodluck Jonathan wanted to re-contest in 2015, I told him to consult God. Atiku should consult God so that his ambition will not ruin his image or personality. He must watch out. Buhari’s second term is not the best for Nigeria. He knows that.

"He should leave in 2019 and pick someone else from his party. A northerner will still rule in 2019. No South-West governor will rule in 2019."

Ayodele, had few weeks ago released prophecies regarding the unity of Nigeria and the agitation for Biafra. Ayodele predicted that Biafra will be actualized but not through Kanu.
