Elder statesman, Josiah Onyebuchi Johnson Okezie answered the Almighty's call early Sunday. Dr. J. O. J. Okezie transisted to Glory peacefully during the early and silent hours of Sunday morning. He was 80 years young at the time of his death. Dr. Okezie according to sources had been dicharged from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu two weeks ago where he had been admitted for an undisclosed illness.

Dr. Okezie had his secondary education at Government College Umuahia, where he displayed extraordinary brilliance in all his examinations. He was owner and Medical Director of Ibeku Central Hospital at the time of his transition. Dr. Okezie(fondly referred to as JOJ), commenced his political career in the early 1960s. JOJ was an Eastern Region Legislator in the First Republic . He served as Federal Minister for Health and later Agriculture under General Yakubu Gowon's regime. Okezie was a member of the 1979 Constituent Assembly and Constitution Drafting Committee(that came up with the 1979 Constitution). He was honoured by the International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England, for outstanding contribution to medicine, science, politics, and the church. Volume X111 of the International Who's Who of intellectuals was dedicated to him. During the Second Republic, he served as chairman of African Continental Bank Limited(ACB).

Dr. Okezie was a prominent and active member of Government College Umuahia Old Boys Association, both at the local level in Umuahia, and national level in the country. In JOJ there was no generational gap between the Old Boys. He participated in all meetings as a rainbow of all Old Boys generations. In him there was no East and West, no South or North. May his exemplary and shinning soul rest in peace, until we meet to part no more.
